Latest updates, opportunities, publications and milestones from the Tabish Research Group (NANOCARD), University of Oxford.
We currently have three DPhil projects on offer through two different Oxford programmes, for students interested in cardiovascular nanomedicine, nitric oxide biology and functional biomaterials. Details of each programme are below.
A fully funded DPhil studentship through the BHF Oxford Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) graduate studentship scheme, supervised jointly with Professor Matthew Fuchter and Professor Keith Channon. The project develops light-activated nanotherapeutics for controlled, site-specific vascular healing.
Fully funded DPhil projects through the BHF Oxford–Cambridge VascularRewind Programme, a four-year structured research degree on the secondary prevention of vascular dysfunction and disease. Our projects focus on nitric oxide-releasing nanomedicines for restoring endothelial function and vascular homeostasis.
Tanveer was awarded the Kroto Medal by NANOSMAT, in recognition of contributions to nanoengineering. The medal is named in honour of Nobel Laureate Sir Harold W. Kroto.
Invited as a 'Rising Star in Redox Biology' speaker at the Nitric Oxide Gordon Research Conference (GRC) in Ventura, California — one of the field's principal international meetings on NO and sulfide in redox signalling and medicine.
Selected from British Heart Foundation fellows across the UK to deliver a 'Spotlight on BHF Fellows' lecture at the British Cardiovascular Society annual conference. In the same year, Tanveer delivered the inaugural 'Scientist in Residence' lecture at the Australian Centre for NanoMedicine, University of New South Wales.
Our work on a new take on nitric oxide signalling — dinitrosyl iron complexes from the microbiota promoting cardiometabolic health — has been accepted for publication.
All Publications →Thomas Foster and Tanveer Tabish describe an ex vivo perfusion platform for testing cardiovascular interventional devices, published as a Tools of the Trade paper in Nature Reviews Cardiology.
All Publications →Our review on nitric oxide-releasing graphene for next-generation therapeutics, with Professor Craig Lygate, surveys the design principles behind NO-releasing nanomaterials for cardiovascular applications.
