About Tanveer
Tanveer Tabish is a Senior Research Fellow and Group Leader in Cardiovascular Nanotherapeutics in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Radcliffe Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Kellogg College. He leads NANOCARD, an interdisciplinary team working at the interface of nanomaterials, redox biology and cardiovascular medicine.
His research addresses an unmet clinical challenge: nitric oxide (NO) is a pivotal redox-active mediator of vascular homeostasis, mitochondrial function and inflammation, yet its therapeutic potential remains constrained by the difficulty of delivering it with spatial and temporal precision. His group designs redox- and pH-responsive nanomaterials that navigate the biochemical gradients of the cardiovascular system to carry NO donors and NO-releasing materials to subcellular targets, alongside synthetic platforms for real-time imaging of NO at subcellular resolution and next-generation cardiovascular implants with controlled, stimulus-responsive release.
He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers, including in Nature Reviews Cardiology, Science Advances, Redox Biology and JACC: Basic to Translational Science.
Alongside his research he is Assistant Editor of Materials Today Communications and an Early Career Advisory Board member of Materials Today Bio, and co-organises the Next Generation Biomaterials symposium at Materials Science & Technology (MS&T). The group collaborates closely with engineers, chemists, pharmacists and clinicians to bridge fundamental redox biology and translational cardiovascular therapeutics.
